Hands On Oregon recently got a boost of muscle when the Oregon High School cross country team ran by Conover Square.
Hector Carreno, Lee Hadick, and Rick Ryland were landscaping the south side of Conover with the goal of having it completed before AOP.
As the team ran by, Ryland teasingly hollered, “We have extra shovels.”
Tim Gipper, the team’s coach, asked if any one wanted to help.
Three eager volunteers, Brandon Hyde-Jones, Sam Minnis and Isaac Brooks, turned around and ran back.
The three able-bodied runners immediately took to shoveling dirt and moving landscaping bricks.
“They worked hard, and were a delight to be around!” Ryland said.
“Thank you, coach; and thank you, guys! You were terrific and fun to work with.”
